Gas carrier

By Admirals Atlas editorial team · Last updated: 22 September 2026

A gas carrier transports liquefied gas in bulk using cargo containment and handling systems suited to its cargo. Liquefaction permits large quantities of gas to be carried by sea, but different gases require different temperature and pressure conditions.

The broad term includes ships for different liquefied gases, but an LNG carrier has a more specific natural-gas role. The general label alone does not identify the cargo aboard a particular vessel; that requires ship-specific evidence.
