An LNG carrier is designed to carry liquefied natural gas in bulk. Natural gas is cooled to a liquid for transport, so the ship uses insulated containment systems and equipment to manage the cargo’s temperature and boil-off gas.

An LNG carrier is a specialized gas carrier. The type describes the ship’s design and intended cargo; a vessel record does not show whether it is carrying gas on a particular voyage.
